Stranded in the wilds. A situation straight out of her nightmares. Fukawa's been scraping through the wreckage of cities, dodging murderous robots and stepping over corpses amid concrete and car crashes. A different sort of rough living. Nature itself, teeming with all its irksome organic tendrils and inclement weather and feral creatures? That's a different sort of scavenging life. She takes to it like a duck to moonscape, and so is inclined to huddle in the drafty log cabin they've claimed as their own.
At least there's plenty to busy herself with cleaning.]
Th-these stupid ants... [She swats one with the wet rag she's been scrubbing the floor with.] If I had the chance I'd b-blast you all with a can of Raid and watch you wriggle to death at my feet...
[A bitter fantasy. Nothing that helps her keep warm. This "afterlife" may not be hell, but it's only one door over from it.
She hears the door creak open and shoots upright. The furrowed brow and sour pucker are wiped clean.]
S-Sakura?
[If she had to pick one thing that keeps Stygia from being absolute torment, it just might be this girl.]
( it's been three days since her chakra cut out. three days, feeling less than helpless. tired and worn in a way that goes deeper than anything she's felt in memory. even the byakugō, faded from her forehead, is insult and mockery to the revocation of her most innate skills.
without chakra, she should be dead. but maybe that doesn't work out to the same thing in the afterworld, does it?
she can still fight. she can still use knives, and knowledge — she can hunt, and track, and forage and she's not useless. but she's worried.
she bumps the rickety door open with her hip, and at the sound of toko's voice she feels the tension in her shoulders let down just a little. still okay, still here. small blessings, patterned over an ongoing fight against the losses they've both weathered here. )
Hey. Sorry — I didn't mean to be so long. I found dinner.
( the poor rabbit she hefts up in one hand. she didn't like doing it, but they need the protein. )
[Fortunate that one of them is useful. In spite of all assurances the ninja has given her, Fukawa has less to offer in than a screen door on a submarine. It's part of why the burgeoning grin of greeting falls the second she spies the rabbit.]
Gah! [She falls back on her ass and braces on the floor.] Don't just w-wave dead animals at people! You look like you belong to a c-cult.
[She huffs, glancing at her sidelong.]
I...suppose...I'm in f-for another lesson in sk-skinning animals, aren't I?
[She'd botched her half of the pair of squirrels on the first day. The stew still cooked up all right but it was slim pickings and gone too soon.]
( the rabbit gets laid down on the table as she helps her friend back to her feet, kindly enough not to use the rabbit murdering hand to do it. girl, sometimes she literally wonders how you've survived this long (haha, litTLE DOES SHE KNOW) )
It's okay. I'll do this one. Can you get the fire ready?
( she tries to be careful. she tries to ensure that the other girl doesn't feel useless or left behind because those are feelings she knows too well, things that grew in her bone-deep beside naruto and sasuke. )
[glances away...especially since her big strong gf is lifting her back upright, uwah....
But okay fire, yes. That is preferable. Fukawa nods and sweeps towards the fireplace, hucking the logs on and squashing the dual flickers of relief and concern alike.
Maybe she should be learning more about it? They might be out here for a while and frankly, it's easier to deal with mutilated animals. Yes yes, she's a monster, what kind of terrible person would think that way, think of the poor fuzzy little bunnies, blah blah blah. She's just not a pet person, all right? And they're all so little and weird looking that it doesn't trigger her half so bad as slices through human skin.]
I'm n-not totally squeamish, you know. [She says suddenly, back still turned. She crouches to spread the kindling.] I've just had enough of b-blood and guts. Sometimes seeing things a lot make you w-worse at dealing with them instead of better. And I haven't f-fainted in years, either!
[Fukawa pauses. Bites at her lip.]
Tomorrow. Okay? [She strikes the match and sets flame to the wood.] I'll cut up whatever little beastie you catch tomorrow.
I'm not sure there'll be anything to catch tomorrow.
( a bit of a sigh. )
I'm having to go further and further away each time... if I don't get my chakra back soon, we're going to have to think about braving the wilds on our own to get back to Stygia.
Th-then there's no use denying it. We'll have to leave this mold-caked hovel soon.
[An unsettling prospect, but she's not about to die curled up in a corner.
Fukawa rises, assessing the other girl with a prim frown. She's looked so wan lately. Whether it's the natural exertion or a drained well of power is hard to say.
It does nothing to sour her pretty features though. Infuriating.]
What do you need to do to fix it? [She scuttles closer, shoulders hunched and worrying her knuckles.] Is there a c-certain area that needs to be r-rubbed?
